Tater tots were first created in the 1950s by the Ore-Ida company as a way to use up leftover potato scraps, and they have since become a beloved American food. They are typically served hot and crispy, with ketchup, ranch dressing, or other dipping sauces.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of potatoes

  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon of onion powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Oil for frying

Directions

  • Peel the potatoes and cut them into small pieces. Boil them until they are soft.
  • Drain the potatoes and mash them well. Add the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  • Form small balls with the mixture and roll them in flour.
  • Heat the oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot. When the oil is hot, drop the tater tots into the oil.
  • Fry the tater tots until they are golden brown, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove the tater tots from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Serve hot and enjoy your homemade tater tots!
