If someone asks you what the continents are, you will promptly answer: Asia, Africa, North and South America, Antarctica, Europe and… Australia. Oops, but calm down: how can Australia be a continent if, for example, Greenland is considered just a country?
The answer is in this video from the Today I Found Out channel, which explored several possibilities. If the population were taken into account, for example, Australia of 22 million inhabitants, against only 57,000 in Greenland. With that, Antarctica would not even be considered.
The reality is that there are no “official” conditions required for a region of the planet to be considered a continent. That’s why there are so many ways to interpret this question. Still, there are some factors that are considered, such as tectonic independence from other continents, unique flora and fauna, and cultural identity, among others.
