The vice consul of the Department of State at the United States Embassy, Nelson Tamayo, announced the launch of a new priority program aimed at reducing the waiting time for obtaining B1-B2 US visas in Mexico.

In an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva on Radio Formula, the vice consul explained that the program will apply to those applicants who meet the following requirements:

  • Be a first-time applicant for the B1-B2 visa (tourism and business).
  • Have paid the interview fee in the last 12 months.
  • Have an appointment scheduled for 2025 or later.

However, he emphasized that the selection of beneficiaries will be carried out randomly, and will not be applicable to all applicants who meet the aforementioned requirements. Once selected, beneficiaries will receive an email that will allow them to advance their appointment.

Tamayo urged applicants to keep an eye on their emails, as the selection will be done randomly and the time to take advantage of the opportunity will be limited.

This program is projected to benefit hundreds of thousands of people in Mexico, significantly reducing wait times for obtaining visas that can currently reach two years.

The US official stressed that the program is completely free and that any attempt to charge additional fees for advancing the appointment is fraudulent.

Finally, please remember that this visa priority program does not apply to those seeking to renew their visa.
