World Press Photo is one of the most important photography exhibitions in the world, as it brings together the best of world photojournalism year after year, and can be seen at the Franz Mayer Museum, in Mexico City, starting on July 15.

This exhibition recognizes the images and stories that generate a reflection on the future of the world and allows us to witness the breadth and impact that visual journalism currently has.

For tens of thousands of years, Aboriginal people – the oldest continuous culture on earth – have been strategically burning the country to manage the landscape and to prevent out of control fires. At the end of the wet season, there’s a period of time where this prescribed burning takes place. I visited West Arnhem Land in April/May 2021 and witnessed prescribed aerial and ground burning.

This year, the winning photo was “Kamloops Residential School” by Amber Bracken, an image that speaks to the neglect of indigenous children in Canadian schools.

World Press Photo 2022 can be seen at the Franz Mayer Museum, in Mexico City, from July 15 to October 2, 2022.

The museum can be visited from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

General admission costs 75 pesos, travelers under 12 years old are free.
