The roast is cooked until it is tender and flavorful, and is often served with the cooking juices. The dish gets its name from the fact that it was supposedly created in Mississippi and has become a popular recipe in the Southern United States. It is often served with mashed potatoes, gravy, and vegetables, and is a hearty and satisfying meal.


  • 2-3 pound beef roast (chuck roast, rump roast, or round roast)

  • 1 packet Ranch dressing mix

  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix

  • 1 packet Italian dressing mix

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 6-8 pepperoncini peppers


  • Place the roast in the crockpot.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the Ranch dressing mix, au jus gravy mix, and Italian dressing mix. Sprinkle the mixture over the roast.
  • Place the butter and pepperoncini peppers on top of the roast.
  • Cook the roast on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-6 hours.
  • Shred the roast with two forks and serve with the cooking juices. Enjoy!


  • Optional: You can also add some chopped carrots and potatoes to the crockpot for a complete meal. Just add them to the crockpot with the roast at the beginning of the cooking time.
