Chow mein the name Chow mein is a Latinization of Chinese that refers to a dish based on stir-fried noodles, of which there are hundreds (or thousands) of variants. The pronunciation of “mein” is Cantonese language “mian” is Mandarin. The character for “mian” / “mein” means 麵 “wheat noodles”. There are different types of variants, the best known are those prepared with onion, ginger, sesame oil, soy sauce, all this fried and accompanied mainly by meat such as chicken.

I’ll be showing you how to make one of my favorite Asian dishes and it’s this vegetable chow mein. It’s loaded with so much amazing flavor and it’s super versatile. You could really add any kind of veggies you like or you can throw in some shrimp or meat all right, first things first.
Whenever I make any kind of stir fry or a Chow mein like this. I like to chop all of my veggies in advance that way as I’m cooking I just toss them in they’re already chopped.


  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 cloves minced garlic 

  • 3/4 cup celery, sliced

  • 2 1/2 cups carrot, julienned (about 2 medium carrots)

  • 2 1/2 cups onion, thinly sliced (about 1 medium onion)

  • 2 lb Yakisoba noodles 

  • 1 medium cabbage, chopped 

  • 14 oz fresh broccoli florets 

  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced 

  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar 

  • 3/4 cup low sodium soy sauce 

  • 3 tbsp white sugar 


  • Chop your bell pepper;
  • Chop julienned carrots;
  • Chop up one medium cabbage;
  • Chop two and a half cups of onion;
  • Now add three tablespoons of olive oil into a large wok and bring it to medium-high heat;
  • Add three minced garlic cloves along with the chopped onion;onion and oil
  • You’ll want to saute that until it becomes translucent;
  • Now you can toss in your julienned carrots and chopped celery and you want to stir that until it begins to soften;
  • Then add in your chopped cabbage and then 14 ounces of broccoli florets and then the bell pepper;
  • Then stir that for about four minutes;stir
  • Now you can pour in 3/4 cups of low-sodium soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, and then sprinkle in 3 tablespoons of sugar;
  • Now give it a good toss;
  • Now you can add in 2 pounds of precooked yakisoba noodles;
