La Guelaguetza, one of the most popular festivals in Oaxaca and Mexico, will take place from July 22 to 29, 2024, in other words, it has already started!

This grand event brings together communities from all regions of the state to celebrate and share their culture, traditions and artistic wealth.

What can you do during these days?
Parades

The delegations arrive in traditional costumes, accompanied by marching bands, marmots and fireworks.

Regional Dance Performances

The main performances of the Guelaguetza take place at the Guelaguetza Auditorium on July 29. Here, the delegations perform dances representative of their communities, such as the Danza de la Pluma, the Sones y Jarabes Mixes, and the Flor de Piña.

Mezcal Fair

During the festival, the Mezcal Fair takes place, where local producers offer tastings of this traditional drink, accompanied by food and craft samples.

Craft and Gastronomic Exhibitions

In various parts of the city, markets and exhibitions are held where you can buy Oaxacan crafts such as textiles, alebrijes, ceramics and a wide variety of typical dishes.

The Guelaguetza also includes concerts of traditional and contemporary music, theatre performances, and light and sound shows at historic sites.

Sports and Recreational Events

Mixtec ball competitions, charrería tournaments, and traditional races are part of the entertainment for visitors.
