Vegan pizza is a type of pizza that does not contain any animal products. Traditional pizza typically includes ingredients like cheese made from cow’s milk and various meat toppings such as pepperoni, sausage, or ham. In contrast, vegan pizza substitutes these animal-based ingredients with plant-based alternatives.

Ingredients
- Dough
2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
- Toppings
1 cup marinara sauce or pizza sauce
1 cup vegan cheese (such as shredded vegan mozzarella or your favorite brand)
Assorted vegetable toppings (such as sliced bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, etc.)
Vegan meat substitutes (such as vegan sausage, vegan pepperoni, tofu, or tempeh), optional
Fresh basil leaves, chopped, for garnish (optional)
Directions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out each portion of dough into a circle or rectangle of your desired thickness.
- Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or lightly greased baking sheet.
- Spread half of the marinara or pizza sauce evenly over each pizza crust.
- Sprinkle half of the vegan cheese over each pizza.
- Add your desired vegetable toppings and vegan meat substitutes evenly over the pizzas.
- If using a pizza stone, carefully transfer the assembled pizza onto the hot pizza stone in the preheated oven.
- If using a baking sheet, place it directly in the oven.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are bubbly and cooked through.
- Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Garnish with fresh chopped basil leaves if desired.
- Slice and serve hot. Enjoy your delicious homemade vegan pizza!
