To make vegan pancakes, these animal-based ingredients are replaced with plant-based alternatives. Here’s a basic recipe for vegan pancakes:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons sugar (or your preferred sweetener)

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup plant-based milk (such as almond, soy, oat, or coconut milk)

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted coconut oil

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add the plant-based milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract (if using) to the dry ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil or cooking spray.
  • Pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot skillet to form a pancake. Use the back of the ladle to spread the batter into a round shape if needed.
  • Cook until the edges of the pancake appear dry, and you see bubbles forming on the surface, usually about 2-3 minutes.
  • Flip the pancake and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes on the other side, or until it’s golden brown and cooked through.
  • Repeat with the remaining batter, adding a bit more oil to the skillet as needed.
  • Serve your vegan pancakes with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, fresh fruit, vegan butter, or dairy-free whipped cream.
