Tortilla chips are a type of snack made from corn tortillas. The process typically involves cutting the tortillas into triangular shapes, which are then deep-fried or baked until they become crispy and golden. The result is a crunchy snack that is popular in many parts of the world, especially in Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine.

minutesTortilla chips are often served with various dips, such as salsa, guacamole, or queso. They can also be used as a base for nachos, where they are topped with melted cheese, jalapeños, sour cream, and other toppings. In addition to the traditional corn variety, tortilla chips can also be made from flour tortillas, and there are flavored versions available that may include spices, herbs, or other seasonings to add extra taste.
Ingredients
Corn tortillas (you can use store-bought or make your own)
Vegetable oil for frying
Salt (optional, for seasoning)
Directions
- Pour enough vegetable oil into a large, deep pan or pot to have about 1-2 inches of oil. Heat the oil to around 350-375°F (175-190°C). You can use a deep-fry thermometer to monitor the temperature.
- Stack the corn tortillas and cut them into wedges or triangles. You can stack several tortillas together to speed up the cutting process.
- Carefully place a handful of tortilla wedges into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for 1-2 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- While the chips are still warm, you can sprinkle them with salt if desired. You can also experiment with other seasonings, such as chili powder, cumin, or garlic powder, for added flavor.
- Continue frying the remaining tortilla wedges in batches, making sure to maintain the oil temperature.
- Once all the chips are cooked and seasoned, let them cool slightly before serving. They are great on their own or with your favorite dips.
