The Olympic rings that were placed on the Eiffel Tower for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will stay there forever, announced the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, in an interview with Ouest France, and on her Instagram account.

In the interview, Anne Hidalgo said that Paris will never be the same again, as the Olympic Games marked a turning point, where the city was transformed positively and generated a great spirit of celebration, which is why she hopes to ensure that this remains forever by leaving the Olympic rings on the Eiffel Tower.

The mayor assured that she has the consent of the International Olympic Committee, and President Macron has already been informed.

According to Anne Hidalgo, the original rings will be replaced by lighter ones since the current ones are too heavy and would not withstand the passage of time, especially in winter.

In addition, Hidalgo mentioned that he also plans to keep the statues that emerged from the Seine River at the inauguration, only that they would be at the Porte de la Chapelle. He also plans to find a place for the agitos (symbol of the Paralympics) that are at the Arc de Triomphe. And of course, the cauldron from the Tuileries Garden will remain.

This decision has undoubtedly caused much controversy in Paris and France, as some claim that leaving the Olympic rings on the Eiffel Tower would violate the monument’s original design.

Even the vice president of the association of descendants of Gustave Eiffel, Savin Yeatman-Eiffel, disapproves of this decision and points out that “the Eiffel Tower is a symbol of Paris and France and has a broader vocation than being permanently associated with an organization such as the Olympic Games.”

What do you think? Would you like to see the Olympic rings on the Eiffel Tower forever?
