Sausage rolls are commonly found in various cuisines, with different variations and seasonings depending on regional preferences. They are a popular choice at parties, picnics, and as a quick and convenient snack option.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450g) pork sausage meat (you can also use beef, chicken, or vegetarian sausage meat)

  • 1 package of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: herbs and spices of your choice (such as thyme, sage, or paprika)

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the sausage meat with your preferred seasonings. Mix well until the seasonings are evenly distributed throughout the meat. You can adjust the seasonings according to your taste preferences.
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, approximately 12×16 inches (30×40 cm). Cut the rectangle into smaller rectangles, about 3-4 inches (7-10 cm) wide.
  • Place a portion of the seasoned sausage meat along the center of each pastry rectangle, leaving a border of pastry on either side.
  • Fold one side of the pastry over the sausage meat, then fold the other side over to encase the filling completely. Press the edges together to seal.
  • Place the sausage rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush the tops of the sausage rolls with beaten egg to give them a golden finish when baked.
  • Using a sharp knife, make a few small slits on the top of each sausage roll to allow steam to escape during baking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the sausage rolls are golden brown and crispy.
