If you are lovers of Mexican traditions and want to be part of the Day of the Dead, you cannot miss the first edition of the Camino al Mictlán FEST, an event that will take you on a journey full of colors, smells and textures inspired by the legend of Mictlán, The underworld in the Mexica worldview.

When and where?

The festival will be held from October 18 to 20, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the UNAM Palace of Autonomy, located at Lic. Primo de Verdad 2, in the Historic Center of the City of Mexico.

Activities and experiences

On the Camino al Mictlán FEST you will enjoy a wide range of activities, among which the following stand out:

  • Guided tours: Every hour, you can participate in tours that explain the nine levels of Mictlán and their relationship with the exhibitors.
  • Audiovisual projections: A visual experience to learn more about the traditions and legends behind the Day of the Dead.
  • Workshops and ceremonies: There will be free workshops for all travelers, and the cacao ceremonies, based on the nine levels of Mictlán, will offer a unique spiritual experience with music and meditation. These ceremonies will have a recovery cost of 111 pesos and it is necessary to register in advance, since space is limited.
  • Crafts and gastronomy: You will find traditional products such as sugar skulls, personalized catrinas, alebrijes, artisanal mezcal, typical cheeses, and the inevitable bread of the dead. Perfect for putting together the offering!

Costs and registration

The entry cost is:

  • 20 Mexican pesos with prior registration through www.adelitasempresarias.com.
  • 30 Mexican pesos without prior registration, paid at the time of entry.

Access includes:
  • Admission to all artistic activities and tours.
  • A surprise upon entering.
  • Participation in a raffle on Sunday at 8:00 p.m.

In addition, admission will be free for those who participate in a cocoa ceremony.

Festival of the Bread of the Dead and Chocolate

If you are still wanting more, the Pan de Muerto and Chocolate Festival will be held from November 1 to 3, both at the UNAM Palace of Autonomy and at Doméstico, Col. Hipódromo Condesa. There you can enjoy more than 150 varieties of bread of the dead and chocolates from different regions of Mexico.
