It’s been a long time since I’ve been here and the truth is that a lot of things have changed during that time.
Among them, the requirements for traveling with pets are becoming much more complicated, it really saddens me that these things are happening. And so that you are not surprised as I was, I want to tell you step by step what you need to know about the new requirements.
COSTS HAVE INCREASED AND ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Yes, that’s right. Not only have costs increased, but for many airlines, such as VOLARIS, prices are subject to change. That is, they will no longer have a fixed cost as before, each flight for your pet will also be priced like yours.
The GDL-MIAMI flight cost between 3,000 and 4,000 Mexican pesos a couple of weeks ago.
Which is terrible for those of us who decide to travel to all our destinations with our pets.
MICROCHIP REQUIRED FOR USA
It is now necessary to bring your pets with a microchip. Previously, only countries within Europe required it. Now, the United States has also joined the list of countries that use microchips for pets.
I honestly don’t know the benefit of this, but what I do know is that not all people have the economic opportunity to pay what the microchip costs, which in Mexico is between 900-3000 Mexican pesos to place the tracking chip.
I find it very unfair that this measure is not within the economic possibilities of most people who travel with our dogs, it is not a luxury. Many of us have the enormous need, responsibility, love and dedication for our pets. Which, of course, includes taking them everywhere with us.
I hope that since it is a “necessity” in some countries, they can also lower the cost of microchipping in most countries. It would also be a good idea to make it a free service.
NEW IMPORT FORM
Here you can see the form which is required to travel from Mexico to the United States.
This form must be completed and shown at the airport. It can be printed or presented over the phone. However, it must be done before the trip.
Without leaving behind all the extremely important requirements:
- Vaccination certificate
- Medical certificate,
- Rabies vaccine and internal and external deworming.
- And comply with the cage measurements depending on each Airline.
I invite you to check your country’s official websites again so that you are not surprised by the new measures. What I am commenting on here is only for Mexico-USA, but it is very important that you also have all the information within your country.
