The bar Long Story Shortlocated in the Juárez neighborhood of Mexico City, celebrated its first anniversary and with a series of events with mixologists and invited bars, it presented its new menu that pays homage to the use of “eternal” ingredients in its cocktails and dishes, without forgetting its musical essence (implicit in every corner of the place).
The idea of using these “eternal” ingredients is to represent those that can survive and maintain their essence even in a post-apocalyptic context, representing a way of moving towards sustainability and innovation in cooking and cocktail making.
Under the creative direction of mixologist Ramón Tovar and chef Ximena ArechagaLong Story Short has become a sensorial tribute that fuses cocktails and gastronomy with musical history.
These are some of their new proposals:
Cocktails
A Walk in Pajamas (220 MXN)
Inspired by Louis Armstrong, this cocktail with Bacardi Añejo Rum, coffee and spices, offers a spicy profile that evokes the comfort of a search for the flavors of home when traveling, transporting the drinker to the musical essence of Armstrong. This cocktail is inspired by a story that tells that when Armstrong was on tour in Europe, one day he woke up at 3am craving coffee; so he went out to walk the streets, in his pajamas, looking for this drink.
Rock in the Morning (220 MXN)
Featuring Stoli Vodka, honey, tomato, and sprouts, this David Bowie-inspired cocktail features a salty, spicy mix that captures the legendary artist’s boldness, while timeless ingredients (in this case sprouts) add a refreshing dimension. The drink is inspired by when Bowie was on tour and suddenly had a hard time drinking, so he’d wake up in the mornings hungover and craving something spicy.
Sea Waves (220 MXN)
Montelobos mezcal, fig, dill and lemon come together in a drink that pays homage to Café Tacuba. Its citrus profile and complexity resonate with the band’s innovative energy, creating a cocktail that is both evocative and refreshing.
Gastronomy
Thai Tiradito de Dorado (190 MXN)
This dish features a delicate sear with mint and ginger tiger milk. The combination of fresh and spicy flavors is a reflection of Arechaga’s ability to create dishes that are both sophisticated and accessible.
Seasonal Croquettes (200 MXN)
Topped with curry aioli, these Sigala croquettes offer a crunchy and aromatic bite, showcasing Arechaga’s ability to transform simple ingredients into something sublime.
Fried Chicken (190 MXN)
With peanut sauce and agave honey, this dish balances the crunchy texture of the chicken with a sweet and salty sauce that is a delight for the palate.
Sliders LSS (250 MXN)
Dand beef with Chihuahua cheese, arugula and special LSS sauce, these sliders have become a house classic (like those records that transcend trends). The combination of intense flavours and quality ingredients ensure that this dish remains a favourite.
Long Story Short’s first anniversary is like the debut of a first album in music: an exciting milestone that celebrates the beginning of a promising career. Just as a first record can be an initial success, Long Story Short has managed to stand out in its first year, offering a unique experience that resonates with its customers.
However, just like an artist who aspires to avoid becoming a “one hit wonder,” the bar aims to transcend this first achievement and establish itself as a reference in the cocktail scene in Mexico City.
Emulating their musical essence, we hope that Long Story Short will continue to shine and evolve, exceeding expectations and securing their place in the scene with a lasting and memorable trajectory.
