The National Museum of Scotland announced that on June 29, 2024 it will open Game On, the largest interactive exhibition on the culture and history of video games.

At Game On, travelers will discover the rich stories of iconic characters, such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario Bros, and will be able to play many of the key games produced over the past 50 years.

The exhibition was conceived and curated by Barbican Immersive and examines the creative and technological advances that have established a new medium and art form.

The exhibition is divided into 13 sections, in which travelers will explore game design and technological parallels across the decades. They also show different types of games, from mobile devices to home consoles and arcade machines. They also talk about cultural aspects and the links that games have with music and cinema.

The sections that the exhibition will have are:

  • First Games
  • Top Ten
  • Genders
  • Characters
  • World Games
  • Cine
  • Music and sound
  • Games for children
  • Laptop games
  • Independent games
  • Multiplayer
  • Immersive worlds
  • Arcades

This exhibition has already been presented in 24 cities around the world, including being presented for the first time in 2002 at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, and now it returns with even more things to see and play with exhibitions that explore new advances in the world of video games.

Tickets for Game On will go on sale in spring 2024 and can be purchased at the official website of the National Museum of Scotland.
