Homemade pizza refers to pizza that is made from scratch in your own kitchen rather than ordering it from a pizzeria or buying a frozen pizza. Making homemade pizza allows you to have full control over the ingredients, flavors, and toppings, resulting in a customized and potentially healthier pizza.

Ingredients
- For the Pizza Dough
2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
- For the Pizza Sauce
1 can (14-ounce) crushed tomatoes
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
- For Toppings (Optional)
Shredded mozzarella cheese
Pepperoni slices
Sliced bell peppers
Sliced onions
Sliced mushrooms
Sliced olives
Fresh basil leaves
Directions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
- Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the well. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for this step.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until it doubles in size.
- In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer the sauce on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust the seasonings if needed.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) or as high as your oven will go.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 2 equal portions for 2 medium-sized pizzas or leave it whole for a larger pizza.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. You can make it thin and crispy or thicker for a softer crust.
- Place the rolled-out dough on a pizza stone or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spread a layer of pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a border for the crust.
- Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
- Add your favorite toppings, such as pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, etc.
- Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown, and the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
- Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool slightly, and sprinkle fresh basil leaves on top if desired.
- Slice the homemade pizza, serve it hot, and enjoy!
