Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef (preferably 80/20 blend for juiciness)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 4 hamburger buns

  • 4 slices of cheese (common choices include cheddar, American, or Swiss)

  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, etc.

Directions

  • Preheat your grill or skillet to medium-high heat.
  • Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into patties, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Press your thumb into the center of each patty to create a small indentation (this helps the patties cook evenly and prevents them from puffing up too much).
  • Season both sides of each patty with salt and pepper.
  • Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness (internal temperature of 160°F or 71°C for medium).
  • During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty and allow it to melt.
  • While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill or skillet.
  • Assemble the cheeseburgers by placing a cooked patty with melted cheese on the bottom half of each bun. Add your desired toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise.
  • Place the top half of the bun over the toppings to complete the cheeseburgers.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious homemade cheeseburgers!
