Cheese balls are typically served with crackers or crudités (raw vegetables), and they are a popular choice for potlucks and other gatherings. They are easy to make ahead of time and can be customized with a variety of flavors and ingredients.


  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 4 oz sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

  • 1/4 cup chopped dried cranberries

  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper


  • In a medium bowl, cream together the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese until smooth.
  • Stir in the chopped pecans, dried cranberries, chives, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
  • Shape the cheese mixture into a ball using your hands.
  • Place the cheese ball on a plate or shallow dish. You can leave it plain or coat it with a topping of your choice. Here are a few ideas:Chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachios)
    Fresh herbs (chopped parsley, rosemary, thyme)
    Everything bagel seasoning
    Crushed crackers
    Panko breadcrumbs
  • Cover the cheese ball with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
  • Serve the cheese ball with crackers or sliced vegetables like carrots, celery, or bell peppers. Let the cheese ball soften slightly at room temperature for about 30 minutes before serving.
