The Memory and Tolerance Museum in Mexico City invites travelers to explore We want to be free and safe!a new temporary exhibition that invites us to reflect on gender violence in Mexico, a problem in which we are involved in one way or another.
¡We want to be free and safe! It shows the origin of the antagonism that marks the hatred between the female and male genders and encourages a change in the beliefs that build our reality today.
The exhibition has several rooms that show the different types of violence against women, testimonies, infographics, interactive and immersive resources and videos that lead the visitor to reflect on the importance of coexistence based on respect and equality.
The exhibition also shows the path that women in Mexico have taken, and continue to take, to assert their rights, since although this problem has been given greater visibility, there is still much to be done.
One of the main themes of the exhibition is to highlight how machismo and patriarchal culture are responsible for perpetuating gender inequality.
The exhibition not only seeks to highlight the problem, but also to generate a sense of collective responsibility. It calls not only on women, but also on men, to actively engage in eradicating these practices and attitudes, building a more equitable and violence-free society. Through various interactive activities, visitors are encouraged to reflect on their own roles in perpetuating or eliminating gender-based violence.
The exhibition is an invitation to imagine and build a future in which all people, regardless of their gender, can live free and safe.
We want to be free and safe! You can visit it from Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and weekends from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The ticket price at the box office is 180 Mexican pesos and includes entry to the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Memory and Tolerance.
